Dear Editor: I think it is sad that Gov. Walker steers clear of the real issue for student safety: the presence and proliferation of guns especially high power assault weapons. If the kids are teaching us — and they are — our culture has to address our attachment for weapons of war to the point of hoarding them! Yes, we are a hunting state but children should not be shooting guns even for hunting (Walker's laws) and private citizens do not need high-powered, high-capacity weapons. I do not think our architects of democracy had these weapons of mass casualty capacity in mind. I have been impacted by multiple gun suicides and the easy access to guns facilitated those deaths. The governor has an opportunity to challenge those Trump script supporters from the old timey days of Heston's "cold dead hands." I would challenge Walker to follow the lead of the young leaders and citizens of Florida.
