Remember shopping at Rennebohm drugstores? How about eating Red Dot potato chips?
A Rockford-based company is offering Madisonians a new way to embrace nostalgia by sporting vintage-themed T-shirts.
Bygone Brand, co-owned by Keith and Amy Watson, recently released T-shirts featuring logos of four former Madison retailers: Rennebohm drug stores, Red Dot potato chips, Moon Fun Shop and Uncle Paul’s Toy Shop.
“We love local history,” said Keith Watson, a designer who first came out with Rockford-themed designs. “What we’re focusing on is local, unique businesses.”
He was contacted by Chris Wadsworth, who runs the Lost Madison Facebook page, about creating some Madison-themed shirts. The site posts old ephemera, such as vintage photos, newspaper advertisements and postcards from Madison’s past.
Wadsorth helped the Watsons choose the brands that would resonate with Madisonians. Rennebohm’s was a no-brainer.
“I think most Madisonians born before 1980 have at least some memories of Rennie’s and, for many, these memories are quite vivid and very warm and comforting,” Wadsworth said in an e-mail.
The Madison T-shirts, which are available for sale on their website, www.bygonebrand.com, come in sizes small, medium and large for $18 and extra large, 2X and 3X for $20.
Watson said they’ve sold a fair number of the vintage tees since the launch a couple weeks ago. Madisonians are “looking at getting a piece of their childhood or memories of the past,” Keith Watson said.
