MOUNT PLEASANT — A Racine man is accused of hitting an elderly woman with his vehicle after she had reported him for shoplifting at the Dollar Tree, 5201 Washington Ave., in August.
Perry H. Brooks, 51, of the 2700 block of Chicory Road, is charged with a hit-and-run involving injury and second-degree recklessly endangering safety, both felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, the woman had seen Brooks shoplifting at Dollar Tree and reported him to store staff. When she left the store, Brooks is accused of getting into his vehicle, driving toward her while shaking his fist at her, then turning, causing the back of the vehicle to strike her.
Mount Pleasant police officers were dispatched to the Piggly Wiggly parking lot, 5201 Washington Ave., at 5:01 p.m. to meet with the woman, who already had a knee brace and complained of increasing knee pain. She was transported to the hospital in an ambulance.
At Brooks’ initial appearance on Tuesday his bond was set at $1,000. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on March 21.
