A shot apparently fired at random the past few days hit a Southwest Side duplex, went through a door and wall and landed on a chair, with nobody getting hurt.

Madison police received a call from a property manager on Monday, after the manager found a spent bullet at the duplex in the 6100 block of Strathmore Lane.

"Responding officers followed the trajectory of the bullet," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "It appeared the bullet came from outside the building, hitting a basement door, through some stairs and drywall before coming to rest on a chair."

The property manager told police he didn't think either of the families living in the duplex would be involved in a criminal act, and that it appeared to be a random shooting.
