Police say DNA from a man suspected in a violent sexual assault in Madison has been linked to other sexual assaults he may have committed in Philadelphia.
Robert Palen, 38, of Middleton, was arrested on Dec. 30 after police said he beat up, strangled and sexually assaulted a woman on Madison's North Side.
Madison investigators entered DNA from that crime scene into a national database, and were contact earlier this month by Philadelphia detectives who said it matched DNA from a 2011 sexual assault there, authorities said.
Palen is also a suspect in two other Philadelphia sexual assaults, Madison police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.
Palen has been charged in Dane County Court with three felonies and two misdemeanors, including second-degree sexual assault and strangulation.
