The University of Wisconsin men's hockey team opens its first playoff series in five years with Game 1 against No. 12 Michigan on Friday (6:30 p.m., no TV, BTN Plus pay stream, 1310 AM).

UW hasn't played a best-of-three series since leaving the Western Collegiate Hockey Association after the 2012-13 season. It went 9-5 in WCHA first-round series from 2000 to 2013.

The Big Ten is using a new playoff format this season, with three weekends of games and a first-round series before single games for the semifinals and finals.

The Badgers enter the postseason with a four-game losing streak since defeating the Wolverines here on Feb. 3. UW will use its fourth different forward lineup in the last four games against Michigan.
