Steve Mahoney announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he was stepping down as Fort Atkinson football coach.
“After 17 seasons as the head coach, I feel the time is right for me to pass the program to a new leader,” Mahoney said as part of his announcement.
He said he was involved with Fort Atkinson football for 33 of the past 36 years as a youth and high school player and as a coach. He thanked his wife, family, school administrators, assistants, players and team supporters.
Fort Atkinson finished 3-6 overall this season, including 2-5 in the Badger South Conference.
He was named school athletic director in 2016.
