Greg Valaskey will take over as Madison West’s interim athletic director, beginning on Wednesday, principal Karen Boran said in a message she sent to the Madison West community on Monday.

Among Valaskey’s previous jobs was as football coach at West. He stepped down in 2013, after nine seasons with the Regents. His teams compiled a record of 39-46 and reached the playoffs five times, including a first-round victory over Mukwonago in 2012. West won the Big Eight Conference in 2005.

“Greg is a long-time Regent, teacher, former coach and is excited to help the entire athletics program complete a successful year,” Boran said in her message. “He will support all of our student-athletes, coaches and families to be successful through the remainder of the school year.”

Valaskey will work with district athletic director Jeremy Schlitz, who’s the Madison Memorial athletic director, to make the transition progress smoothly, Boran said.

Valaskey replaces Torrance Hill, who submitted his resignation last Tuesday.
